This page covers some of the more frequently asked questions about our technology.
Coefficient of Performance (CoP) is a metric used to measure performance of heating systems. It is the ratio of useful heating provided to the energy required to deliver it.
We are currently operating a prototype system in Biaco’s laboratories and are planning to trial a 50 kW demonstrator system with partners in late 2026 into 2027. We expect to produce a commercial product in 2028.
Replacing the entire UK gas network (687 TWh of gas in 2024, 70% of UK energy) is a huge task. It includes:
• 30 million homes
• 1.4 million offices and businesses with employees
• Industrial and agricultural heating
To do that will require resources and time.
However, this does show the potential impact of the Biaco system. The technology is relevant as a heat source to many businesses and housing in the UK, Northern Europe, North America and to industries globally.
Biaco is financed by over 185 shareholders mainly based in the UK. This includes significant ownership by members of the Board and a small percentage held by Biaco’s charity, the Net Zero Foundation. To date we have raised nearly £10m. A small amount of funding from grants has contributed to the system’s development, awarded by Innovate UK and local authorities.
Biaco established a charity when it was founded in 2020, The Net Zero Foundation, which owns a small percentage of the total shares of Biaco. The charity aims to help the poorest in society receive the benefits of the technology, such as warmth and clean water. Biaco will provide funds to the charity once it is generating income from product sales and paying dividends to its shareholders.
So far, we have limited our equity search to interested parties such as family, friends and introduced high net worth individuals. The investors have been instrumental in getting us to the stage where the technology is patented and has been demonstrated in Biaco laboratories. We are now widening our reach to the larger sovereign funds and green investment funds to raise finance to grow the team, develop manufacturing facilities and build the commercial organisation needed for product launch in 2028.
Biaco has intentionally kept a low profile in the media apart from limited news items around collaborations and verification. This has allowed s to protect the technology through the patent process. During 2026 we will build our external PR presence starting with the publication of scientific papers.
